RA-1756: AFRICAN-AMERICAN SACRED MUSIC WE'VE COME THIS FAR BY FAITH II This course will offer an introductory overview of the development of African-American sacred music with a special focus on hymnody. It will also include an exploration of current issues and developments in hymnody, particularly in the area of language and expression of theological faith. The class experience will combine lecture, group discussion and singing, and guest presentations. The video, "Too Close to Heaven", will be a primary teaching and discussion tool. Course evaluation will be based on in-class attendance/ participation and the submission of reflection paper on a selected topic or person. [20 max enrollment] Class meets daily, 1/13/10-1/17/10, from 1:00pm-5:00pm, in MUDD 102.
